Places to Cool Off in Animal Kingdom on a Hot Day – Part 1
The rain may be unpredictable in Orlando, but the heat never is. For more than half the year, it’s a guarantee—Walt Disney World is gonna be HOT! But don’t let the heat stop your fun. With some creative planning and forward thinking, you can make a schedule for Animal Kingdom that keeps you and your family the coolest they possibly can be. Work these places into your Animal Kingdom plan to use their cool-down potential.
Table Service Restaurants
Making an Advanced Dining Reservation (ADR) for one of the Animal Kingdom restaurants is a great strategy to beat the heat since they all offer delicious food in the midst of deliciously cool A/C. Schedule an ADR midday at Tusker House, Yak and Yeti, Tiffins, or Rainforest Cafe for a needed break from the heat.
Who’s the coolest duo in all of Walt Disney World? Mickey and Minnie, of course! But on a practical note, this character greeting spot is indoors, which means enjoying air conditioning while you wait.
Avatar Flight of Passage
If you haven’t been on the newest thrill ride in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora: The World of Avatar, then put it on your must-do list! Since the wait times are super high right now, the beginning of your journey will be hot, but the last hour will be in the cool interior. (And let me tell you, the wait—even over an hour—is definitely worth it!) If available, try to get a Fast Pass for this attraction. You will still have plenty of time to cool off!
Festival of the Lion King
This amazing acrobatic show is not only a feast for the eyes, it’s also a relief for your overheated body! The show lasts about twenty minutes, which is a great chance to sit and recharge in the cool of this theater in the round.
Animal Kingdom does get hot, but with these spots in mind, you can manage even the hottest day. Also, remember to rehydrate often. Counter service restaurants will always give you a free cup of ice water to refill your water bottles, so don’t let them get dry! Stay cool, Disney Fanatics!
